This trek crosses the rolling mountains of the high Rupshu plateau inhabited by nomads.  The barren region is home to numerous species of wildlife including the wild Ass Kiang, Himalayan Marmot, Tibetan Antelope, and Himalayan Ibex.  The route crosses high passes and along side the great saline lakes of Tso Kar, and Tso Moriri finishing in the Nomads village of Korzok.

Fixed departure - Rumtse to Tsomoriri Lake - 9 days, Leh to Leh - July 18th 2010, open for booking.

 

RUMTSE TO TSO MORIRI TREK

Best Season: June- September

Difficulty: Moderate overall but high altitude passes

Map:

 

Day 1: Jeep from Leh to Rumtse (4 hours).

Day 2: Hike from Rumtse to other side of the Shingbuk La pass (6 hours, highest point: Shingbuk La 4875 m).

Day 3: Hike from Shingbuk La to Thukjey Gompa (7 hours).

Day 4: Rest day in Thukjey and walk around for acclimatization Before crossing Kyamayuri La pass and yalung Nayu La.

Day 5: Hike from Thukjey to Nuruchan village (5 hours).

Day 6: Hike from Nurchan village to Gyama (6 hours, highest point: Kyamayuri La 5400 m).

Day 7: Hike from Gyama to Korzok (6-7 hours, highest point: Yalung Nyau La 5440 m).

Day 8:   Rest day in Korzok and sightseeing around Tso Moriri

Day 9:   Korzok to Leh by Jeep
